A NOTE FROM OUR DIRECTOR
20 June 2022
Our world as we know it has been turned upside down, and although we are still facing many challenges, there has definitely been huge growth in the transport and logistics industry.
With the rise of online shopping and demands on warehousing and logistics, there has never been a more important time to upskill with a forklift licence.
Former PM Scott Morrison recently announced our national shortage of forklift drivers, which made headlines around the world, as he boldly asked the states to reduce the national age restrictions on gaining a forklift licence. (You need to be over the age of 18 to get your licence in Queensland.)
With this idea unanimously thrown out by the states, it begs the question.. how are we going to solve this national shortage? I believe half the current population should be encouraged to shatter the stereotype and get their forklift tickets!! Ladies, the nation needs YOU!
As the Director of FMS Training, I have personally witnessed an exceptional number of amazing female forklift graduates over the years. It’s amazing to help break the mould of what is such a male-dominated industry and see others do the same.
I’ve seen women from all walks of life, unemployed women looking for a start in the industry, women upskilling for their current job roles, and just recently, women reskilling to try something new. It’s encouraging to see more and more women come through our doors at FMS, and I think if we can inspire more women to enter the industry we could make a significant dent in our forklift driver skills shortage.
So to all the ladies out there thinking of a new start or just trying something new, come and give it a go! We have an amazing team of trainers who are there to support you, every step of the way.
Still unsure if it’s for you? Come on down for a trial afternoon, where you can test-drive our forklifts, one-on-one with our trainer. (So no pressure from anyone else watching you!)
Stay tuned for our Open Day coming up too.
Happy and safe driving everyone!!
